Booking & consultations
- How do I book an appointment?
- Call (310) 386-8604. Randy takes every call himself. If he's with a client, leave a voicemail and he'll call you back the same day. There is no online booking — the phone call is part of the consultation.
- What happens at the consultation?
- Randy discusses your hair history, goals and lifestyle over the phone. For new clients, the first in-person appointment begins with a visual and tactile analysis of your hair before any work starts. The consultation is complimentary.
- Is the consultation really free?
- Yes. New clients receive a complimentary consultation and blow-dry. Randy uses this time to assess your hair, understand your goals and give you an honest recommendation before you commit to anything.
- What are the salon hours?
- Thursday through Saturday, 10 AM to 9 PM. Other days are available by special appointment. Call to check availability.
Color services
- How much does hair color cost?
- Every service is quoted at your complimentary consultation. Cost depends on hair length, condition and the complexity of the work. Randy gives you a clear estimate before starting.
- How often should I get my color done?
- It depends on the technique. Root touch-ups are typically every four to six weeks. Balayage can go eight to twelve weeks because it grows out softly. Randy will recommend a schedule based on your specific service.
- What is corrective color?
- Corrective color fixes problems from a previous color job — box dye gone wrong, brassiness, banding, over-processing or uneven color. It may take more than one session. Randy will give you an honest timeline at the consultation.
- What's the difference between balayage and highlights?
- Highlights use foils for uniform, evenly spaced lightening. Balayage is painted freehand for a softer, more graduated result. Balayage grows out more naturally and typically needs fewer touch-ups.
Cuts & styling
- Do you cut men's hair?
- Randy specializes in women's hair design. For men's cuts, he's happy to recommend a local barber.
- How often should I get a trim?
- For most cuts, every six to ten weeks. Shorter styles and precision bobs may need more frequent visits. Randy will recommend a schedule based on your cut.
- Can I get a cut and color in the same visit?
- Yes. Randy often combines services in a single appointment. Mention it when you call so he can block enough time.
Asian hair
- Why does Asian hair need a specialist?
- Asian hair has a round cross-section, thicker cuticle layer and higher density. These properties affect cutting, coloring and styling. Generic techniques often leave Asian hair blunt, heavy or brassy. Randy has spent decades developing techniques specifically for this texture.
- Do you color Asian hair?
- Yes. Color on dark hair is one of Randy's core specialties. He lifts gradually, manages the cuticle carefully and tones to avoid brassiness. The result is dimensional color without damage.
Treatments
- What's the difference between keratin and Brazilian Blowout?
- Both smooth and reduce frizz, but they use different formulas. Keratin treatments last longer and provide more straightening. Brazilian Blowout is lighter and more flexible. Randy recommends the right one based on your hair type.
- What is Olaplex?
- Olaplex is a bond-building treatment that repairs damage at the molecular level. It's different from keratin, which smooths the outside of the hair. Randy adds Olaplex to color services to prevent damage and offers standalone treatments for hair that needs repair.
Location & parking
- Where is the salon?
- Salon Riviera, 1807 S Catalina Ave, Redondo Beach, CA 90277. It's in the heart of Riviera Village, one block from the Esplanade and the beach.
- Is there parking?
- Yes — free street parking throughout Riviera Village on Catalina Avenue and surrounding streets. No meters during salon hours. There's also a public lot on the Esplanade.
- Do you do house calls?
- Yes. Randy offers house calls across the South Bay and Palos Verdes. Cuts, styling and treatments work well at home. Color services are best done at the salon. Call (310) 386-8604 to arrange.
